NDepend v5 is here!

Visual Studio 2013 and .NET 4.5.1 Preview Available at Build Conference

Developers can now download preview versions of Visual Studio 2013 and the next release of the .NET Framework. Microsoft unveiled the new software today at its Build conference, along with the preview of Windows 8.1.

In addition, the third update to Visual Studio 2012 was released. This is mostly focused on bug fixes, but it’s an important update “if you need to be able to ’round-trip’ projects between Visual Studio 2012 and Visual Studio 2013, or if you want to run Visual Studio 2012 on the Windows 8.1 Preview,” Microsoft Developer Division VP S. Somasegar wrote in a blog post.

Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 RTM now available

After the release of Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 in April 2013, Microsoft just released the next RTM version of Visual Studio 2012 marked as Update 3 (26th June 2013). This includes the latest cumulative series of feature additions and bug fixes.

It also includes Team Foundation Server 2012 Update 3. If you are waiting for the final release of Update 3, it’s the time to update your IDE with latest set of features & fixes.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 announced

Today at TechEd, Brian Harry announced Visual Studio 2013 and Team Foundation Server 2013 and many of the Application Lifecycle Management features that they include.

The next major release, Visual Studio 2013, will be available later this year, with a preview build publicly available at the Build conference in San Francisco at the end of the month. In his keynote demo and follow-on foundational session today, he highlighted some of the new ALM capabilities coming in this release and in the cloud, including new features focused on business agility, quality enablement, and DevOps.

Self-assembling furniture

Assembling your own furniture, after you have brought it home from the showroom, is a nightmare for many people.

So, what if flat-pack furniture was smart enough to assemble itself?

Belgian designer and engineer Carl De Smet is experimenting with a kind of smart foam technology, which he believes could do just that. Once heated to a set temperature, the material he works with, shape memory polyurethane (SMPU), will expand to a given design.

Currently working with scaled-down models, De Smet is close to building the technology to achieve the effect with full-size furniture. Ahead of its formal unveiling at the Milan Design Week festival on Tuesday, he gave BBC News a sneak preview at his Brussels studio.
