BackTrack Reborn – Kali Linux

It’s been 7 years since they released the first version of BackTrack Linux, and the ride so far has been exhilarating. When their dev team started talking about BackTrack 6 (almost a year ago), each of them put on paper a few “wish list goals” that they each wanted implemented in the “next version”.It soon became evident to them that with their 4 year old development architecture, they would not be able to achieve all of these new goals without a massive restructure so that’s exactly what they did and “Kali” was born.

openSUSE 12.2 is ready for you!

The latest release of the world’s most powerful and flexible Linux Distribution brings you speed-ups across the board with a faster storage layer in Linux 3.4 and accelerated functions in glibc and Qt, giving a more fluid and responsive desktop. The infrastructure below openSUSE has evolved, bringing in mature new technologies like GRUB2 and Plymouth and the first steps in the direction of a revised and simplified UNIX file system hierarchy. Users will also notice the added polish to existing features bringing an improved user experience all over. The novel Btrfs file system comes with improved error handling and recovery tools, GNOME 3.4, developing rapidly, brings smooth scrolling to all applications and features a reworked System Settings and Contacts manager while XFCE has an enhanced application finder.

BackTrack 5 R2 Released!

After months of development, bug fixes, upgrades, and the addition of 42 new tools, the BackTrack team is happy to announce the full release of BackTrack 5 R2 available for download now. Running their custom-built 3.2.6 kernel with the best wireless support available, this is their fastest and best release of BackTrack yet. In the past few weeks, they have had a flood of submissions to their BackTrack Redmine Tracker with submissions for many new tools and dozens of packages that needed to be updated and this has helped to make this one of the strongest releases they’ve ever had.

Once again, their good friends over at Paterva have created a special BackTrack edition of Maltego 3.1.0 for our data mining pleasure and they have also included their recently-released CaseFile tool to help us organize and collate data from numerous sources. If you have never used these tools before, you really need to…they will change the way we interact with data and conduct reconnaissance.
